Nicholas Snow is a journalist, author, actor, radio and television host, singer/songwriter, LGBT civil rights activist, and a world-renowned, openly-gay, openly-HIV positive advocate for HIV testing and safer sex.
Nicholas Snow makes every day World AIDS Day (December 1st) by promoting HIV testing and safer sex as one of the world's leading multimedia entertainment activists.
This is told in his riveting, new, written-as-he-lived it, well-reviewed, living-powerfully-with-HIV memoir, Life Positive: A Journey to the Center of My Heart. (http://www.LifePositiveBook.com).
From Hollywood to Bangkok, to Bali and beyond, including Kuala Lumpur and Palm Springs - with profound expansion to Singapore, Mumbai and throughout all of Asia, and ultimately in 21 languages across the globe - Life Positive: A Journey to the Center of My Heart could easily be titled "Eat, Pray, Disclose."
The book is dedicated to "The tens of millions of people in the world living with HIV, most of whom do not yet know their status; to everyone who fights for us, and to those who still fear us. Get tested and live longer and be strong."
When he learned he had become HIV positive through a rare slip in his safer sex behavior, Snow held a press conference at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand and has ultimately reached millions of people with his experience, strength, and hope.
Snow has been openly-gay in the media for about three decades, and is often referred to as “one of the world’s primo promo homos.” Snow lives his mission statement one day at a time which, as he explains, is “to honor and express my creativity in a way that makes a difference.”
In Life Positive: A Journey to the Center of My Heart, Snow's life-affirming story of courage empowers people to save their own lives and the lives of those they love. Alina Oswald for the national magazine, A&U, writes, "What stands out is that Life Positive is not only a story about living as an HIV-positive individual, but also about living a positive life and living in the moment. Because, as the author explains, at least for the moment, compared to his life, which has gotten so big, HIV seems rather tiny."
Editor Kristin Johnson writes, "If you or someone you love are LGBTQI and/or a person living with HIV/AIDS or working on behalf of those living with HIV/AIDS; or are in any way affected by HIV/AIDS; or if you or someone you love may be (even unknowingly) HIV positive, you need to read this book. If you have risked it all in pursuit of a dream and a passion, you need to read this book. If your life has been changed forever in an instant by an event or challenge and you have had to decide what to do next despite incredible opposition, you need this book."
Book Nicholas Snow, HIV/AIDS Activist and Author/Singer/Songwriter to discuss...
- How HIV positive people who know their HIV status and follow their doctors' medical advice can live long and healthy lives.
- The two ways to learn you are HIV positive: One is to get tested (and then you can get treatment); the other is to get sick. Better to "get tested and love longer and be strong." When someone has an HIV test and learns that they are HIV negative, they can reinforce their commitment to remaining HIV negative.
- The key to the end of the AIDS epidemic, short of a cure, is to make HIV testing as widespread and routine as possible, and to treat everyone who is HIV positive with modern medication. This is because an HIV positive person who achieves and maintains what is called "an undetectable viral load" (the result of a successful medication regime) is up to 96% less likely to transmit the virus to their sexual partners.
- It is important for people to give themselves permission to identify, follow and ultimately live their dreams. Goethe said, "Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it, begin it now!"
